This week I attended the OECD – OCDE Business and Finance at the OECD as the UK’s law enforcement representative at the Working Group on Bribery.
I spent International Anti – Corruption Day at the WGB’s Law Enforcement Officer Network with over 60 international law enforcement colleagues discussing shared challenges, good practice and the benefits of effective international co-operation.
On Wednesday I attended the WGB Global Dialogue. The Global Dialogue is open to countries wider than WGB Member States, and I represented the UK by discussing the Serious Fraud Office (UK)’s experiences with non-trial resolutions as a means of enforcing foreign bribery.
It was an honour to share the floor with my fellow panel members Kathleen Rousell, Chair of the OECD WGB, Adv Dianne Willman, Deputy DPP at South Africa’s NPA and Serhii Ionushas, Chair of the Ukrainian Committee on Law Enforcement.
There was engaging debate around ensuring transparency, balancing the interests of justice and achieving outcomes that are fair, proportionate and dissuasive.
It is exciting to see how many countries are making real efforts to move into the NTR arena and are keen to learn from countries who have more established regimes in place.
