FINTRAC’s financial intelligence was recognized by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as part of a national sprint aimed at disrupting illegal fentanyl production and distribution in Canada. The operation was also focused on dismantling criminal networks and targeting the supply of chemical precursors. During the sprint, Canadian law enforcement reported 489 occurrences related to fentanyl and synthetic opioids, which resulted in 524 arrests and the seizure of large quantities of drugs and other commodities. With the financial transaction reports received from Canadian businesses across the country, FINTRAC is providing valuable assistance to law enforcement and national security investigations.
